I currently have a CopperJet USB modem on FS Broadband,
but recently made my PC a dual boot XP / Red Hat.

I set up another internal modem for Red Hat, to connect to FS "Pay as You
Go", but its too slow for my patience.

I have read on newsgroups etc. that the Alcatel Speedtouch 330 USB is the
way to go, and they even
seem to have the Linux drivers downloadable from speedtouch.com:

http://www.speedtouch.com/dvrdownload_lx.htm

However - is this the best modem? Are there security issues with this modem?

Should I download the BINARY or the "Open source" driver?

Why not get an ethernet adsl modem/router, Dabs do an easy to setup one
and its reasonably cheap. I've been using it for 5 months now(never been
switched off) with no complaints.
And because its ethernet it will work with any OS (I use Windows XP home
& Pro, Linux(SuSE) and Solaris) you can name as long as you have a
working network card in your PC

Model ADSL Conexant 1 Port quicklinx 17P7WS
price £37.49 inc VAT
url:- www.dabs.com/uk/productView.htm?quicklinx=17P7
